New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday expressed its helplessness in initiating proceedings against some lawyers and the ballistic expert with regard to the alleged nexus between them in criminal cases.
"Our hands are tied as an appeal in one of the two criminal cases, which were referred to in the letter, is pending before the court," a Division Bench of Justice R S Sodhi and Justice P K Bhasin said, while dealing with the issue of alleged collusion between the lawyers and the ballistic expert.
Justice Sodhi had received an anonymous letter during the hearing of the Jessica Lall murder case, which had alleged there were two more cases similar to it in which investigations were not properly carried out.
The Bench had, in April, directed the police to probe into the issue raised in the one-page typed letter.
Of the two cases, the court said, the first one is a murder case in which the appeal is pending and the second one is a road rage case in which the accused was discharged by the trial court and the same was upheld by the Delhi High Court.
A ballistic expert Roop Singh, who submitted his report pointing to a two- weapon theory in the Jessica Lall case, had given his negative report in these cases.
