HYDERABAD: Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj will be felicitated  and given an award of Rs 1 lakh by Andhra Pradesh State Cultural Council (APSCC) on the occasion of Teachers' Day on September 5 at Ravindra Bharathi, announced chairman of APSCC RV Ramana Murthy.Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, he said that the Pandit would also perform his world acclaimed 'Ritusamhara' on the day. Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Governor ESL Narasimhan will also be present at the event, he said.Ritusamhara is a new kind of dance made from a mix of six prime Indian cultural dances - Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Mohiniaattam, Manipury and Odissi. Murthy also announced other events to be conducted by the council. Prof Divakarla Venkatavadani's centenary celebration will be conducted at Ravindra Bharathi on July 15.A three-day workshop will be held on August 30, 31 and September 1 on Kuchipudi Kalapalu-Tera-Satyabhama Jada. The workshop aims to bridge the gap between cultural dance masters and students through seminars and interactive sessions. The workshop is free and the participants will be provided food and shelter for three days. The participants will have to register their names before 15 days. The venue will be announced later, he said.APSCC will also make a documentary on 'Morphing Music', which is one of the oldest musical art forms of Hyderabad. The artistes will perform at Ravindra Bharathi and will also be felicitated soon, he said.
