KORAPUT: The State-level tribal festival Parab-2011 will be kicked off from the Koraput stadium on Wednesday evening. Thousands of tribals have gathered here in their traditional attire to participate in the event that seeks to showcase the region’s rich cultural heritage. After completion of month-long panchayat, block and district- level celebrations, the three-day grand finale will be inaugurated by MP Pyarimohan Mohapatra. The fest will feature a number of sporting events, tribal dances, songs and traditional instrumental music shows. Around 500 artistes from across the country would perform during the festival. The main attractions would be Teejan Bai, an exponent of Pandavani, child singer Barnali Hota, artistes from Eastern Zone Cultural Centre, Prince Dance Group of Ganjam and cultural troupes from Kalahandi, Malkangiri and Sambalpur. Sources said the inaugural event would have 5 lakh footfalls and elaborate security arrangements have been put in place to avoid any untoward situation.Science and Technology Minister Ramesh Majhi, Koraput MP Jayram Pangi, Zilla Parishad president Ashok Pangi and the legislators of Koraput, Laxmipur, Pottangi, Jeypore and Kotpad would attend.
