Pay KWA's power charge dues: HC to Kerala Govt
If the balance due of Rs 250 crore was not paid, the board would face severe financial crisis.

Kochi: Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed the state government to pay Kerala Water Authority's outstanding electricity charges to the tune of Rs 250 crore to the Electricity Board and then proceed against the authority.

Passing orders on a petition by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) seeking a direction to the KWA to clear the dues, a division bench comprising Justice CN Ramachandran Nair and Babu Mathew P Joseph also directed Advocate General KP Dandapani to get instructions in this regard from the government.

The dispute over power dues was between the two bodies fully under the state government.

The bench also directed the board not to disconnect power supply to any of the offices or pump houses of the KWA.

KSEB submitted that the power dues are from 2008 onwards and it had already waived Rs 500 crore. If the balance due of Rs 250 crore was not paid, the board would face severe financial crisis.
