Bangalore: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Friday condemned the serial blasts said the serial bomb blasts in the city were part of a planned conspiracy.
"It's a planned conspiracy to vitiate the atmosphere and to try to create confusion among people", he said. "There is no need to panic. It's a planned conspiracy. I appeal to people to maintain calm", he said.
Yeddyurappa also announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the family of the dead. "Bangalore enjoys the reputation of being the fourth largest tech hub in the world. It is the centre for IT and BT. People of Karnataka are known for peace and tolerance. This is a pre-planned action to create panic and disturbances. The situation is under control and I appeal to the people not to panic,” he said.
The state government has also constituted a high-level committee to conduct probe.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh too condemned the serial bomb blasts and urged people to remain calm and maintain communal harmony.
Expressing grief over the loss of lives, the PM has sanctioned an ex-gratia payment of Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin of those dead and Rs 50,000 to those injured.
Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi also condemned the blasts. "This is a cowardly act and people who want to disturb the peace of the country are behind it," she said.
Party spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said the party president has also offered her condolences and sympathy for those killed and injured in the blast.
Panic gripped various parts of the city as news of the nine blasts spread, causing anxious moments for the city's residents.
Though the telephone networks were jammed for some time after the blasts, the connectivity was resumed by evening.
Traffic police swung into action, cordoning off areas and diverting traffic to other routes.
The roads where blasts occurred approached roads to the Electronic city, the hub of global companies.
