New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives in a landslide in Sri Lanka that mostly destroyed homes of Indian-origin people and wished speedy recovery to those injured.
"PM has expressed his deep condolences on the loss of lives due to the landslide in Sri Lanka. PM wishes the injured a speedy recovery," said a tweet on his official microblogging account.
Nearly 200 people are feared to have been buried alive after a deadly landslide destroyed the homes of mostly Indian-origin tea plantation workers with slim chances of any survivors being found.
The landslide, was triggered by heavy rains and wiped out 120 workers' homes at the Meeriabedda tea estate in the central Badulla district.
