HYDERABAD: A day after a dentist Dr Naresh Reddy had opened fire on a gang of burglars killing one of them, the police are considering to provide security cover to the dentist and also to his residence anticipating a possible retaliation from the gang. Naresh Reddy shot down a burglar while locals nabbed another.Police officials suspected the involvement of ten members in the robbery attempt at Naresh Reddy’s residence. While two of them gained entry into the doctor’s house, the others waited outside. The eight other persons were apprehended later.Police officials came to the conclusion that the gang was involved in several thefts in the posh Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills localities and might pose a threat to the dentist.Jubilee Hills police inspector K Narsing Rao said that during interrogation of the accused, Shiva, it came to light that the deceased, Murali, and Shiva worked in the film industry, erecting sets.When they had no enough work in hand, they resorted to such offences that would fetch them instant cash.It also came to light that the gang committed ‘well-planned’ thefts at the residences of prominent people in the two posh localities.The gang members conduct recce during the day time and strike at night.Police officials confirmed that the same gang was involved in a theft at the residence of Reserve Bank’s former governor Y V Reddy less than a week ago and are probing the gang’s role in similar offences that took place in houses of several prominent people in the locality.The gang had also attempted a theft at CRPF inspector- general N R K Reddy’s house on the highly secure CRPF campus.With a number of complaints pouring in since the Saturday’s incident at Dr Naresh Reddy’s Bharani Layout at Jubilee Hills, police officials have decided to strengthen the security measures at night in various localities.“Naresh Reddy will also be provided security and the matter is under consideration. There may be other members of the gang, who are at large and might target him in retaliation,’’ a police officer said.
