Police register murder case against ship crew

KOLLAM: The Kollam Coastal Police have registered a murder case against the crew of the Italian ship, Enrica Lexie, for killing two fishermen in the deep sea off Alappuzha coast the other day.The case was registered based on the statement given by the fellow fishermen of the victims and the evidence collected from their boat, St Antony. Apart from the deceased Jelestin alias Valterine, 45, of Moothakkara, here and Pinku, 22, of Kulachal, in Kanyakumari district, owner of the boat J Fredy, Gilsarian, Francis, Martin, Muthappan, Remans, Michael, Johnson and Hilary were the others present on the boat.Meanwhile, various fishermen associations and trade unions have registered their protest against the incident.Fishermen under the banner of pro-CITU unions took out a protest march from the Neendakara Harbour on Thursday.  The pro-AITUC unions urged the fishermen in the state to strike work on Friday.
