Police scan Kanda's 400 SMS to Geetika Sharma

New Delhi: Delhi Police are whaling through voluminous 400 SMSes sent to former flight attendant Geetika Sharma, who committed suicide in New Delhi on August 5, by her former employer and ex-Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda, sources said.

A Delhi court, meanwhile on Sunday, extended by a day the police custody of Aruna Chadha, an official of Kanda's now-defunct MDLR Airlines where Geetika worked.

Duty Metropolitan Magistrate Sumed Kumar Sethi sent Chadha to police custody till August 13.

Chadha has been charged with abetment to suicide of Geetika, 23, at her house in north Delhi's Ashok Vihar on August 5. She was arrested on Wednesday.

Police on Sunday continued searches at co-accused Kanda's offices and bases in Gurgaon, including his MDLR office, as he was yet to appear before them for questioning. He was untraceable and on the run, police added.

"Around 400 pages of SMSes sent by Kanda to Geetika are being studied. During his absconding period, Kanda was destroying evidences at his MDLR office," said a police officer.

Kanda, who owned the MDLR Airlines where Geetika was earlier employed, was booked for abetment to her suicide and criminal intimidation.

Police took Chadha to the Gurgaon office of the defunct MDLR Airlines during raids and seized some files and CDs.

Investigators said Chadha told them that a few days ago Geetika had written a letter to her.

According to Chadha, police said, the letter said: "Few experiences in life cannot be forgiven or forgotten. I will build my career, no matter how many obstacles 'one' puts in my way."

Geetika hanged herself to death and in her suicide note blamed Kanda for her extreme step. Her autopsy report on Friday confirmed there was no foul play and she died due to hanging.

Kanda, who began his career as a petty shopkeeper and later became a multi-millionaire property dealer, floated the MDLR Airlines in 2007. He was elected as an Independent legislator from Sirsa constituency to the Haryana assembly in the October 2009 polls and joined the Congress-led government headed by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
