Parts of Chennai faced massive power outage on Thursday night after a fire broke out near the Manali substation in North Chennai. Protests also erupted near the station over the power cuts at around midnight.
According to media reports, the blaze erupted inside the station, due to a possible equipment malfunction, and impacted the entire supply.
Efforts to douse the flames were on.
Meanwhile, several residents in the city rushed to X and reported the power outage.
“It’s a massive powercut in Chennai.. It’s a massive blakout in chennai.. Seen like World have Observed Earth our for Power Saving Mode,” one user wrote.
Another X user wrote, “Witnessed a Massive Powercut at 23-45 pm and till not come restored And everywhere seen in as Blackout.” (sic).
