CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Thursday lifted the arrest on the ship mv Prabhu Daya, which was allegedly involved in a collision with a fishing vessel MFV Don No.1, off the Kerala Coast on March 1, and was at the outer anchorage here, following settlement of the claim for Rs 1.04 crore. The claim suit and applications filed by the boat owner and three others came up for hearing before Justice R Subbiah. Recording the settlement reached between Puni Gopal Shipping Private Ltd., of Singapore, owner of mv Prabhu Daya, and the four, the Judge lifted the arrest and permitted the ship to sail. As per the settlement, the owner of the fishing trawler, Jacob Antony, would get `55 lakh, two injured deckhands, Joseph and Michael, `12 lakh each, and Helen, wife of the deceased deckhand, Babichan alias Bernard alias Thenkachan, `25 lakh. The main suit was sent to the Lok Adalat. The Adalat headed by Justice K Swamidurai, recorded the compromise and dismissed the suit as settled. It directed that the entire court fee be refunded to Jacob Antony, the plaintiff.
