New Delhi: After Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman Khan, 'Dhobi Ghat' actor Prateik will be showing off his six pack abs in his next film 'Issaq'. Prateik, 24, has been working hard for the film, which is an adaptation of Shakespeare's classic 'Romeo and Juliet'. The actor is playing a Benarasi boy.
"For the first time I will be playing a desi Romeo who belongs to Benaras. The character is completely different to what I am in real life and I have to prepare a lot for that."
"Apart from learning the diction, I am hitting gym regularly for two hours to get the six pack abs needed for my character. It is difficult because I am not at all a gymming person," Prateik told PTI.
The film, which is set in the backdrop of Benaras, is directed by Manish Tiwary of 'Dil, Dosti etc' and will be produced by Shailesh Singh and Dhaval Gada.
"Manish approached me for the film a year back. He convinced me to take up the project as he feels only I can do justice to the character of a Benarasi boy. As he belongs to that part of the country he is helping me to get into the character," Prateik added.
Prateik, who started his career with the Aamir Khan production 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' alongside Imran Khan and Genelia D'Souza, says he is enjoying the best phase in his career.
"I am probably going through the best phase of my career. Each film is a challenge and I am thankful to God that I am overcoming all these challenges," he said.
The actor was last seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'My Friend Pinto', where he played a character of a confused guy Pinto who messes up everybody else's life.
"It was my first comedy film. The film made me learn about myself that I have a good comic timing. It was a light hearted film but there were many technicalities into my character. These were nicely brought out by Bhansali ji," he said.
Prateik, who is the son of late actress Smita Patil and actor turned politician Raj Babbar, says he misses his mother, who died soon after his birth.
"I miss my mother. But my aunt is now like mother to me. She takes care of my everything. If given an opportunity I would definitely work with my father and brother," he added.
