Panaji: Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday said his ministry has initiated inquiry "against illegal construction of golf-course by the Indian Navy" in Goa.
"The Indian Navy has illegally constructed golf-course in the land adjacent to the Dabolim airport. We have already initiated inquiry into the matter," Parrikar said.
Dabolim airport is based in INS Hansa, a naval base in the coastal state. Goa Congress had alleged that the Navy had built golf course illegally adjacent to the Dabolim airport.
Meanwhile, the Minister also ruled out possibility of allotting land for the Naval Enclave at proposed Mopa airport. "The question of providing land for Naval Enclave at Mopa airport does not arise until they (Navy) point out some emergency," Parrikar said.
Earlier, the Goa government had also refused Navy's request for providing land for the Naval Enclave.
