Railway Employee Accused Of Molesting Minor In Train, Angry Passengers Beat Him To Death In UP

A railway employee was allegedly beaten to death in a moving Delhi-bound train by a family of a 11-year-old girl and fellow passengers after he was accused of allegedly molesting the minor girl in Lucknow, the police said.

According to the police, the incident took place in a 3AC coach of 02563 Baruni-New Delhi Humsafar Express train on Wednesday. A group of agitated passengers allegedly thrashed a Group D railway employee Prashant Kumar after he allegedly molested a 11-year-old girl traveling with her family in the train.

The girl’s family, a native of Bihar’s Siwan boarded the train on Wednesday and, around 11.30 pm, Kumar made the minor sit on his seat. When the girl’s mother went to the washroom later, the man allegedly molested the minor, NDTV reported.

When the girl’s mother returned from the washroom, she ran to her and started crying. On being asked the reason, the girl described her ordeal to her mother. Following this, the woman informed her husband, father-in-law, and other passengers about the incident.

Enraged over the incident, the child’s family and fellow passengers started beating the 34-year-old Kumar. When the train reached the Aishbagh junction in Lucknow, the agitated people grabbed Kumar and took him near the coach’s doors. They thrashed the man till the train arrived at Kanpur Central, which is approximately 1.5 hours distant from Lucknow.

As the train approached Kanpur junction, railway officials caught hold of Kumar and took him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, the police said.

The mother of the minor lodged a complaint of sexual assault and molestation against the deceased with the GRP in Kanpur while a case of murder was also registered against the minor’s family and unidentified passengers on the complaint of Kumar’s family members.

Kumar’s uncle alleged a conspiracy to kill the man. He claimed that Prashant was not that kind of man. “Prashant was not that kind of man. It seems he was killed as part of a conspiracy. He was beaten for so long, were there no personnel from the Railway Police Force around,” NDTV quoted him as saying.

Superintendent of Police, GRP (Prayagraj), Abhishek Yadav said, “When the train crossed Aishbagh, the girl said she had been molested. Her family members and other passengers beat up the accused. At Kanpur Central, the accused was handed over to the GRP and a complaint was filed. When he was taken to the hospital, he was declared dead.”
