Recent reforms announced by the Union Government would act like a ‘two-way bridge’ which would benefit both India and the United States of America, opined Nirupama Rao, Indian Ambassador to the United States of America. Speaking to the media at a private event, she said the announced reforms would allow more investments to flow into the country.
“Bilateral trade has crossed $100 billion last year. A great deal of investments have come in from the US and Indian companies too have been investing in that country,” Rao said, adding, “The recent reforms which have been announced would catalyse this.”
High security at diplomatic offices
Responding to a query on the recent attacks on US diplomatic office in Libya, Nirupama said that India was ensuring high security at all their diplomatic establishments across the globe.
“The US Embassy in New Delhi is in close touch with the External Affairs Ministry and we have assured them that we will provide security,” Nirupama said.
She added that the Indian Home Minister and his counterpart in the US had discussed matters relating to homeland security. “We share a commitment to counter the forces of terrorism. There is an enormous scope for strengthening our relationship in this regard to deal with the forces of terrorism,” Nirupama said.
On the US reduction of L1 visas, Nirupama said the matter had been taken up with the US authorities which was affecting IT professionals in India. “They are aware of the situation on H1B1 and L1 visas and the concern of the IT companies,” she said and hoped the situation would ease due to their efforts.
