In a breather for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Supreme Court on Friday directed the board to conduct fresh All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) and publish the results of the same by August 17.
The apex court had earlier scrapper the AIPMT 2015 examination held on May 5, asking the board to re-conduct the papers within four weeks time.
Following the earlier order, the CBSE had told the Supreme Court that it was "impossible" to re-conduct the AIPMT examination within four weeks.
The AIPMT results, originally slated to be declared on June 5, were earlier stayed following allegations of malpractice in the examination with as many as 700 students receiving answer keys through mobile phones. The fate of at least 6.3 lakh MBBS aspirants has been hanging in balance because of the delay in the examination.
Large-scale irregularities including leakage of answer keys for the AIMPT exam 2015 came to the light on the exam day, with the investigators informing the court that the answer keys of 123 questions were transmitted through 75 mobile phones in states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Haryana.
The court had issued notices to the Centre, CBSE, Medical Council of India and Haryana on the pleas seeking re-conduct of the AIPMT on grounds of alleged large-scale irregularities.
