BANGALORE: Setting an alltime record, 83.3 per cent of students passed the 2012 Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination conducted by Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB). Of the 8.25 lakh students who appeared for the examination, 6.28 lakh candidates passed the exams conducted in April. Navya R S from Venkataramaswamy English Medium School in Bantwal secured the highest marks of 623 out of 625. Announcing the results on Thursday, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri said, “There has been an increase of three per cent in the SSLC results compared to 2011, when a percentage of 80.7 was recorded. Udupi has secured the first place followed by Sirsi and Hassan in the second and third places respectively.” Lauding the efforts of teachers and schools, Kageri said, “The remedial teaching process conducted by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan has contributed to the good results. While 47 aided schools recorded zero pass percentage, none of the government schools figure among them. Right from the start of the academic year, students with poor grades were identified and suitable assistance for exams was provided.” The Minister also said that despite the change in the examination pattern, students performed well. “The topper has secured 623 out of 625, which is the highest so far, while the second place stood at 621, secured by three students,” Kageri added. Girls outshone boys with 84.58 per cent compared to boys’ 80 per cent
