Almost five years after the royal massacre in Nepal, the tragedy continues to haunt an innocent victim.

Kathmandu: Almost five years after Nepal's King Birendra and nine of the royal family were killed in a mysterious massacre in the royal palace in Kathmandu, the tragedy continues to haunt an innocent victim.

Devyani Rana was the fiancee of then crown prince Dipendra, who also died in the shootout after allegedly killing his parents, siblings and five other relatives.

She is the daughter of Pashupati Shumsher Jung Bahadur Rana, the grandson of the last powerful Rana prime minister of Nepal and one of the most famous clans in Nepal.

Devyani had been forced to leave Nepal and sojourn abroad due to the unwelcome media glare that focused on her and her family after the killings.

She got engaged to Aishwarya Singh, grandson of Arjun Singh, India's human resources development minister and a member of the ruling Congress Party.

The wedding was to have taken place in India in November, followed by a reception in Kathmandu.

However, after the media got the wind of the upcoming wedding and gave it a blaze of publicity, reviving Devyani's unwitting association with the palace massacre, the match is reported to have run into trouble.

The groom's family is said to be asking for postponing the marriage, if not cancelling it altogether, reports said. Days before the wedding, the groom, according to local media, is said to be opposing the match.

According to members of Nepal's Rastriya Prajatantra Party, headed by Devyani's father, her parents went to New Delhi last week to console their daughter.

Last year Devyani hit the headlines in Nepal when the current crown prince Paras created a drunken scene in an upmarket restaurant cum shopping complex in Kathmandu after reportedly running into Devyani and her father.
