BHADRACHALAM: A sum of Rs 100 crore has been sanctioned for improving and construction of new prisons in the state, CN Gopinath Reddy, director general of prisons said here on Wednesday.He said a proposal is also under consideration where the jail inmates would be allowed to speak to their relatives on mobile phones.He said the Centre has sanctioned Rs 90 crore and the state government another Rs 10 crore to develop prisons.Plans are afoot to set up a new prison in Kurnool and expand Nellore prison.He said the government had sanctioned Rs 5,000 for each prison for medical expenses of inmates. The prisoners were being trained in various skills so they would be self-employed once they are released. As part of this, a petrol pump was started at Kadapa prison and a white phenoil production unit at Charlapalli.
