BHADRAK: After having spent more than a week in relief camps, the flood-ravaged people of the district retraced their steps back home. The trail of destruction in  Dhamnghar, Bhandaripokhari, Bhadrak, Tihidi and Chandbali blocks is unfathomable. In a review meeting, District Collector Akshay Kumar Pani directed the district officials to provide medical services and potable water in these villages for a month. Urging the officials to expedite restoration work, Pani asked them to submit the damage report by October 15. Panchayat officials have been asked to initiate necessary measures to restore communication to the affected villages.Nearly 3.5 lakh people have been affected by the flood with their houses and belongings washed away.“During the assessment, priority should be given to damage to house, crop and water supply system. Photos should be enclosed with the assessment report on damage to houses,” the Collector said. The identity of the dead in the flood should be properly ascertained, he added.Meanwhile, the district administration has sought Rs 22 crore - Rs 12 crore for house damage and Rs 10 crore for crop loss - from the State Government.
