HYDERABAD:  The state government requires at least Rs 2,600 crore additional amount to fulfill various promises made during Rachabanda programme it had undertaken in January this year. Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy held a high-level meeting in the Secretariat here on Wednesday to review the Rachchabanda promises and the follow-up action on them.He asked the officials to complete the verification of pending applications received during Rachabanda programme relating to ration cards, pensions and housing in a month’s time. The government received 32.50 lakh applications from 23 districts for new ration cards but onverification, only 16.12 lakh were found to be genuine. The total cost for sanctioning new ration cards would be Rs 500 crore.Similarly, of the 12.25 lakh applications received for sanction of new social security pensions, only 3.49 lakh were found to be eligible after a six-step validation process. The government needs an additional Rs 81 crore  per annum to meet the bill for new pensions.   Of the whopping 19.97 lakh applications received for new houses under the weaker sections’ housing programme, only 7.18 lakh were found to be genuine after preliminary verification.An estimated Rs 2,000 crore will be needed for implementing the housing scheme. Apart from the welfare measures, the government will have to spend Rs 667 crore on development works by different departments like roads and buildings, rural water supply and revenue.The chief minister directed the departments to take up the works with available funds and complete them within stipulated deadlines, they said.He directed the civil supplies department to start issuing new ration cards after foolproof verification.
