BHUBANESWAR: The Thirteen Finance Commission (TFC) has made a provision of ` 70 crore for improvement in the training of police personnel during a three year period from 2011-12 to 2014-15. According to the white paper published by the Home Department, ` 17.5 crore has been provided in the Budget in this regard. Construction of office buildings and residential quarters and purchase of training materials will be taken up with the funds provided in the budget. The white paper maintained that Centre had approved ` 34.61 crore police modernisation scheme for the State for 2011-12. Out of this, ` 6.35 crore were earmarked for buildings, ` 5.02 crore for residential quarters, ` 4.93 crore for purchase of vehicles and ` 2.49 crore for arms and ammunition. Besides, the Centre had also sanctioned ` 20.24 crore under the special infrastructure scheme for construction of barracks, helipads, linking of roads, briefing halls, operational hubs and officers mess in the Maoist affected districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jajpur and Kandhamal. Out of this, ` 9.35 crore has already been released. The state government has also provided ` 1.97 crore for construction of class rooms in two out of the three counter insurgency and anti-terrorism school in the State. Besides, provision of ` 2 crore each has been made for 70 police stations in Maoist affected districts jointly by the Centre and the State Government for their fortification. The white paper said that 80 percent of the total allocation for a police station will be provided by the Centre while the State Government will provide 20 percent of the fund. The Central Government has approved ` 121 crore for the project, out of which ` 21 crore has already been released.
