CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday ordered modernisation of the Beddikuppam check-post located on Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border in Tiruvallur district at a cost of Rs 79.77 crore. Modern weighing machine, parking lots where large number of vehicles can be parked at a time, office buildings with all facilities, godowns, modern electric and electronic gadgets and computers will be available after the upgradation. Besides, the offices of the departments of transport, police, revenue, commercial taxes, cooperation, food, prohibition and excise would also be set up in the same place for efficient functioning.With the implementation of the modernisation project, more number of vehicles can be handled in lesser time thus long queue of vehicles will be avoided.Besides, goods can reach their destination quickly. Further, since the offices of all departments are located in the same place, tax evasion, illegal transportation of essential commodities, liquor etc will be checked fully.
