Patiala boy Kamal Khan says he has his feet on the ground

Patiala boy Kamal Khan couldn't have asked for more from Santa Claus this festive season - he was crowned Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar on Christmas Day. The 22-year old, however, has his feet grounded and says he still has a long way to go.

"My struggle has started now. I still have to go a long way. Reality shows help us showcase our talent and teach us how to face the world. The rest is up to us how well we use this platform," Kamal said after winning the crown Saturday evening.

Kamal won the crown by beating finalists Abhilash Chellum of Mumbai and Baisakh Jyoti of Kolkata.

"I may have been declared a winner today but I know I will have to stand in the same line as Abhilasha and Baisakh. I am not letting this success get to my head because today you may be star and tomorrow you are no one. I have tough competition to face," he said.

One can attribute his practical approach towards life to his humble background - Kamal's father works as messenger in a government office and his mother, who is his mentor, is a homemaker. He has been learning music from his mom and is also pursuing honors in music from a government college in his home town.

"I credit my success to my mother and father - because of them I am what am I am today. I have never had formal training in music it's my mother who has taught me. I was never tense whether I would win or lose because my mother used to tell me if you lose first time, you would definitely win later," he said.

But Kamal surely is is on cloud nine as he bagged a Bollywood project, thanks to his mentors Vishal and Shekhar, who gave him an opportunity to sing a song in their new film Tees Maar Khan. His song Wallah re wallah picturised on Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan.

"I feel very proud that I got an opportunity to sing in Tees Maar Khan. I am a huge admirer of Akshay Kumar and it's a proud moment for me that I got a chance to sing for him. Lending my voice for him is like a dream come true," he said.

Kamal also feels a special connect with singer Raja Hassan, who has sung Wallah re Walla with him.

"I never watched Sa Re Ga Ma Pa until 2007 when Raja Hassan was a contestant. I was quite impressed by him and I felt that there is a special connect with him and when I met him we instantly got along with each other," he said.

Kamal admits he's yet to carve a niche for himself and is set to start his journey with full dedication and hard work. Until then, he will be celebrating his victory with his family and friends.
