New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday will conduct a hearing on illegal religious structures built on government land. The court has asked all states and union territories to provide details on the number of religious structures that have encroached on government land, as well as those that have been subsequently demolished or relocated.

During the hearing, the SC is also expected to make a ruling on how officials who allow these structures to be built on government land should be punished.

Earlier in 2013, the bench had asked all the state governments to remove unauthorised constructions including places of worships from roads and public places.
