Scoring big

KOCHI: Keeping aside all her extracurricular activities, Kavya Kanjikkal single-mindedly  concentrated on academics during the last leg of her plus two days. The all-rounder has done her family and school proud by scoring a full 1200 marks in the higher secondary examinations.Sharing her excitement with the City Express, Kavya seemed quite grounded and convinced about the learning experiences that lie beyond text books. Not the kind who mugs up books for hours on end, she just focused on learning the lessons on a daily basis, she says.  “I am not a student who burns the midnight oil just prior to exams.Hard-core preparation started by the end of January, till then I used to take the weekly tests at school seriously which helped me a lot. During my preparation, I made it a point to learn a chapter each of every subject daily so that I could complete my revisions much ahead of the exams,” says Kavya.All through her school days, Kavya has actively been participating in extra-curricular activities. She has represented the school in elocution and mono-act competitions at District and State level. She also got the chance to participate in the Balasree Camp held Delhi.Her father, the late Kanjikkal Susheelan, who was a social worker and an active member of the Marxist party, was the one who used to select speeches and poems for her to deliver in competitions. “Till his last, he was there for me. When I was in the ninth grade, my father left me at the railway station from where I was to go on a journey. On his way back home, he met with an accident…and he left us forever,” her voice thins.Post exams Kavya, a student of St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Pattom, looks forward to performing well in the AIMS entrance. “Since my childhood, I had dreamed of becoming a doctor. I want to be a dedicated physician, specialised in pediatrics,” says Kavya.
