BANGALORE: After the grand success of the first Indian Forest Congress held in New Delhi from November 22 to 25, the second Indian Forest Congress will be held in Bangalore from November 7 to 10 this year.This information was disclosed at a meeting held recently between Dr PJ Dilip Kumar, Director General of Forests (DGF) and Special Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Dr VK Bahuguna, Director General (DG) Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE) along with the senior officials from the State Forest Department in the city.Speaking to Express about the Congress, a senior forest official said, “With the theme of ‘Greening India’ the second Indian Forest Congress is planned in Bangalore at Tata Auditorium, Indian Institute of Science (IISc).”When asked why Bangalore was chosen for the Congress, he said, “The first of it was in North India and this year we had planned to organise it in South India. Since Bangalore has a lot of reputed institutions like the IISc, Institute of Wood Science and Technology (IWST) and a whole range of wildlife and rich forest resources, the MoEF has decided to hold the Congress in Bangalore. Further, the third Indian Forest Congress 2013, is slated to happen at Guwahati in Assam.”Around 500 scientific paper presentations, various workshops and exhibitions will be organised during the convention. “The Congress is aiming at spreading the message of forest conservation and plan out strategy to check climate change” he added. Over 1,500 delegates are expected to take part in the Congress.
