Mumbai: Ever since filmmaker Shekhar Kapur directed Seema Biswas as the dreaded bandit queen Phoolan Devi, way back in, the film became a household name. Now buzz is that a sequel to it is being planned. However, this time around Bobby Bedi will don the director’s hat. While the rest of the cast is still being finalized, buzz is that Seema will be retained as the protagonist.
Our source says, "The story of the sequel will be completely different though it will still be based on Phoolan's life. I think by the end of this month, things will get finalised and the official announcement will take place." Word is that the makers are also looking for a suitable replacement for late actor Nirmal Pandey who played a major role in the film. Our source adds, “We are conducting research on Phoolan Devi after she came out of the jail. We are looking to start he project over the next few months."
Bedi however refuses to divulge further detail about the film. Kapur’s 'Bandit Queen' ended at the point where Phoolan was shown being released from jail after all charges against her were withdrawn. The sequel is said to focus on her life after she entered politics and till her death in 2001.
