THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UGC-Nehru Studies Centre at the KU Department of Political Science is organising a two-day national seminar on ‘Conflict and peace in South Asia: Nehru and beyond’ during March 2-3 on Karivattom campus. The seminar will debate on the intricacies involved in the South Asian politics, especially since South Asia is characterised by multi-ethnic societies with striking internal divisions along linguistic, regional, communal and sectarian lines, externally linked to one another across national boundaries. The negative effects of ongoing ethnic conflicts, civil wars, ethnic cleansing, communal and political violence, terrorism, counter-terrorism, religious extremism, militarisation, gross and systematic violation of human rights, unresolved inter-state and intra-state conflicts and subversive economic interests, etc, are visible today more than ever before in the region. A galaxy of scholars from different parts of India attending this conference includes Sanjay Chaturvedi, M K Bhadrakumar, Nalini Kant Jha, W Lawrence S Prabhakar, Sayed Abdul Muneem Pasha, Sanjay K Bhardwaj and Venkat Lokanathan, among others. The venue of the conference is the seminar hall of the KU Department of Political Science.
