CHENNAI/NAGERCOIL: Yet another former DMK minister fell on police net as sleuths of DVAC conducted searches at seven premises belonging to former minister for tourism and registration N Suresh Rajan, his wife and relatives located at Nagercoil and Tirunelveli district on Saturday. Police said the search was conducted in residences, factories and office premises after a criminal case was registered against the former minister for allegedly acquiring properties disproportionate to his income.Police said that after receiving specific information that Suresh Rajan had acquired movable and immovable properties disproportionate to his known sources of income during the period between May 2006 and March 2010, the DVAC conducted a preliminary enquiry. Upon inquiry, a criminal case under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act-1988 was registered on Friday by the Kanyakumari Vigilance and Anti-Corruption unit.According to informed sources, a team of DVAC sleuths, led by Tiruchy district DVAC Deputy Superintendent of Police Ambikapathy, raided the residence of Suresh Rajan at Vellalar Colony in Ramavarmapuram in the town around 6 am on Saturday.The sleuths also searched a private factory and office of NSR Steels, owned by DS Bharathi, the former minister’s wife at Pazhavoor village, Tirunelveli district and a fish net company and office ‘Tamilmalai Nets’ located at Asaripallam Town panchayat, police added.Sleuths said that the house of T Duraisamy, father-in-law of Suresh Rajan, at Ramavarmapuram, West Colony, Nagercoil, the house of R Uma , the former minister’s sister, located at Ramavarmapuram, Nagercoil and the house of Priya, sister of Suresh Rajan’s wife located at Parvathavardhini Street, Nagercoil were also raided.Police security was tightened in and around Suresh Rajan’s house during the raid. Around 1.30 pm, the sleuths started winding up their raids at various venues and around 3.20 pm, the raid at Suresh Rajan’s house at Ramavarmapuram was completed.
