London: Indian tennis pair Divij Sharan and Purav Raja squandered a two-set lead to end up losers in the men's doubles competition at Wimbledon in a first round clash against American-German duo Nicholas Monroe and Simon Stadler here.
Monroe-Stadler defeated the Indian pair, making their Grand Slam debut, 6-7(4), 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in three hours and 15 minutes on Monday in the only grass court major.
The Indian pair did well to bag the first set, in a tie-break, and the second set quickly but the tide turned when Monroe and Stadler broke in the third set to extend the match.
The American-German duo broke the Indians once more than the latter in the fourth set to push the match into the decider which was also taken by the more experienced pair.
Despite playing well, lack of experience at such a stage cost the Indians crucial points at significant junctures of the match.
