HYDERABAD: Pokes, likes and posts. These words might have had a different meaning a few years ago but now, they are used in reference to the social networking site --- Facebook .Yes. Welcome to the world of social networking which has ended up making the world a very small place, more like a global village --- wherein getting in touch with people is just a click away.A few months ago, one of my friends was missing her old friend from her previous school. She was terribly wanted to meet that friend as it had been quite a few years since they spoke. The suggestion she got was to look for ger friend on Facebook where she foun not only that one friend, but all her former school friends. Social-networking sites offer a great platform for people of all age groups to keep in touch with their friends and family, share day-to-day experiences and meet new people. Social networking sites are great way to communicate. People often track down their long-lost friends and relatives. People with common interests come together. These sites are infact very useful to an extent but crossing the limits may lead to many problems.Today’s generation consists of two lives. One of them is online life. Facebook can be very addictive to its members. Resisting it is very hard. Chatting on these sites for hours on end is the basic problem teens face today. Things more important are thus neglected. Many people ruin their professional life as most employers would want to know more about us through social networking life and may end up getting a wrong impression. Considering the draw backs I conclude that social networking sites are great to meet our old friends and sharing our thoughts but can end up leaving a huge impact on our lives if not careful.V Prajna is a class IX student from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Public School
