Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa shot back at BJP national president Nitin Gadkari on Friday, accusing him of “listening to vested interests” while neglecting the trusted leaders of the party.
Reacting to Gadkari’s statement at the BJP national executive meet on Thursday, where he indirectly attacked Yeddyurappa saying that “no person is bigger than the party”, the former CM said, “I welcome Gadkari’s statement. But it should apply to everybody. Let me remind him (Gadkari) that I did not become the CM overnight, but after 40 years of hard work.”
He also asked Gadkari to take a cue from the Congress leadership on how to treat party leaders. “The Congress leadership never lets down its leaders based on false allegations or goes back on its promises. This is the greatness of the Congress leadership. But you (Gadkari) had promised me several things and kept none,” a beleaguered Yeddyurappa said, suggesting that Sonia can be more reliable than Gadkari when it came to fulfilling promises.
Accusing Gadkari of being responsible for the confusion in the state BJP, Yeddyurappa sought to know why he chose to name two deputy chief ministers in Karnataka much against the party’s principle. “It shows the weakness of our national leaders. When Atalji was active, such problems were not there. Today, Karnataka BJP is not alone, there are problems in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan units. I want Gadkari to introspect on this,” he said.
