BANGALORE: The city traffic police have decided to strictly enforce traffic rules rather than booking more number of violation cases. At a press conference held on Wednesday, City Police Commissioner B G Jyothiprakash Mirji was apprised about the hardships that vehicle users are facing due to routine check of documents by traffic police. Later, he decided to carry out special drives to check documents rather than doing it on a daily basis.“It will be ensured that traffic cops won’t trouble vehicle users by unnecessarily stopping them. In future, we will inform the public about the special drives in advance through media and they will checked only during the drives,” he assured. He also said that the traffic police would be instructed to be visible near the signals instead of hiding and catching the offenders. “This would make the vehicle user to think twice before violating the rules,” he added.Dr T A Saleem, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Security), said that the department has plans to stop booking cases on roads in the next three years. “Most of the offenders, who are sent violation notice to their doorsteps, are not paying penalty. However, we are trying to stop the practice of stopping vehicle users. In a few years, there would be no direct contact between the offenders and the policemen, but they would be sent notice for the violation by utilising technology,” Dr Saleem said.
