PARADIP: Dearth of government officials in Jagatsinghpur district has paralysed relief and rescue operation in the floodhit villages. Over 53,000 people of 35 villages have been severely affected by the flood. Irate villagers of Tirtol on Tuesday detained both District Collector Narayan Chandra Jena and MP Bibhuprasad Tarai alleging largescale irregularities in the relief distribution in Tirtol and Kujang blocks. Sources said the post of District Emergency Officer has been lying vacant since long and Nuagaon Tehsildar Bibudha Mohanty is holding additional charge of the post.
The post of Tehsildar in Ersama is also vacant. The BDOs of Tirtol and Balikuda joined only last week and they don't know much about the area. Even ADM Nihar Chandra Mallick and DRDA project director Nanda Kishore Sethy were posted two days back.
