Chennai: To commemorate the 100th year of Mahatma Gandhi's return to India in 1915, the Department of Posts would release two stamps on Friday.

An album of these stamps would be presented to Gandhi's former personal assistant Kalyanam during the event at the Philatelic Bureau on Anna Salai, a PIB release said.

It was on January 9, 1915, Gandhi returned to India and landed at the Apollo Bunder in Mumbai.

Jonathan Hylop in his chapter on 'The Cambridge Companion to Gandhi' book wrote, "On 9 January 1916, MK Gandhi disembarked in Bombay to a hero's welcome. His ideas and personal leadership exercised a powerful pull on India's nationalist elite, and were seen by many to hold the political key to the country's future."
