BANGALORE: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Sunday announced that Karnataka Khadi Gram Udyog will receive a boost in aid to the tune of Rs. 50 lakh from the state government.Addressing a gathering at the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations held at Gandhi Bhavan here, Gowda said, “Members of the Khadi Gram Udyog were asking me to raise government aid from the existing Rs. 25 lakh  to Rs. 50 lakh. I will notify the same to the Dept of Kannada and Culture in the coming days.”“I don’t want the Gram Udyog to repeatedly ask the government. There will be an increase in the aid,” he added. The chief minster said a 15 per cent rebate on the sale of Khadi has been initiated already, with the state government releasing Rs. 600 crore towards this.Remembering Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his 142nd birth anniversary, Gowda said the Mahatma is not getting the respect he deserves. “It is shameful that our Mahatma’s non-violent land is drowning in violence with each passing day,” he rued. Commenting on the issue of untouchability, Gowda said: “It is unbelievable that untouchability prevails even to this day. The state government will do everything to realise the Mahatma’s dream of a utopian Ramrajya and Gramrajya.”Former CM B S Yeddyurappa, who was also present at the function organised by the  Karnataka Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi (KGSN), said that Gandhian values could be a solution to all problems. “Gandhi’s principles could bring an end to all problems in the society,” he added.
