Stink in Onyx leaves Chennai roads dirty
Onyx workers say the company manager is a racist and their salary and arrears are being deducted without reason.

Chennai: Garbage is out and overflowing on Chennai's roads for the past three days and all because of a strike in Onyx, Chennai's garbage clean up company.

Onyx workers say the company is deducting their salaries and arrears without reason and when they asked the management why, more dirt was thrown up.

Aranganathan, who works at the company says, "We want the quality manager to resign. He's been exploiting us and called us 'bloody Indians'. He even spat on us. We don't have to take this!"

But as the management begins negotiations with the workers, the stink is out on Chennai's streets.

The City Corporation had contracted Onyx for road cleaning and garbage removal, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

However, now the Corporation is trying to clean the city with just 430 workers of their own, instead of the 2,300 workers provided by Onyx.

Onyx workers say they will not touch the waste piling up in the city till they're treated better at work.
