HYDERABAD: A law student created some tense moments for police and forced a shift in venue of an exam in Law College at Basheerbagh after he locked himself up and threatened to set himself ablaze demanding a better faculty and hostel facility.The drama which started on Monday morning went on till afternoon and forced authorities to shift an examination supposed to be held in the college to to Nizam College. Around 8.30 a.m on Monday, Ateeq, a third year LLB student, entered the college premises and locked himself inside. "He was in possession of a 500 ml plastic bottle filled with petrol and a match box. Ateeq threatened to set himself ablaze if his demands were not met,'' Abids police inspector K Shiva Kumar said. Ateeq, who stays outside the campus and works with an advocate put up two demands. He wanted hostel facility for students of the college in Osmania University campus and transfer of faculty from OU for better teaching standards.For nearly two hours, police counselled him and tried to stop him but in vain. Finally, the rear grills of the college were cut with gas cutters and police entered the premises. They managed to catch Ateeq and took him into custody. An examination scheduled to be held at Law College in the morning had to be shifted to the nearby Nizam College and conducted after a delay of 30 minutes.A case under Section 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the IPC was registered against Ateeq.
