ROURKELA: The gradually rising mercury went on to record the season’s highest-ever temperature on Thursday. Sundargarh town sizzled at 45 degree Celsius and Rourkela city trailed closely at 43.2 C.After initially sparing the industrial and mining district of Sundargarh, intense heatwave is sweeping across the district. A day before, the district headquarters town of Sundargarh recorded 43 degree Celsius. Unofficial sources claimed it was 45 degrees on Thursday at the bald patches of Rourkela.Sources said the district and Rourkela city, in particular, witnesses intense heatwave condition with temperature hovering around 44 C this time of the year. But this year the denizens were spared of long spells of heat as temperature only occasionally reached 41 C.So far two alleged cases of sun-stroke deaths were reported. District Emergency Officer Alomani Sethi said one case was received from Rourkela, adding technical reasons for the deaths are under verification.
