Pune: A foreign national suspected to have swine flu has gone missing from the Sassoon hospital ward in Pune. The man was referred from Naidu hospital to Sassoon hospital and was admitted there.
Swine Flu-hit Mumbai youth critical
A 28-year-old youth admitted in a private hospital has tested positive for H1N1 virus and is in "very critical" condition, manager of the medical facility said Saturday.
Sandeep Gaikwad was admitted in L H Hiranandani Hospital in suburban Powai on August 3 and Swine Flu infection was confirmed on Friday, Manager of the hospital Manish Joshi said.
He is the first critical H1N1 patient in Mumbai.
"His condition is very critical. A team from the state government referral hospital - Kasturba Hospital - came last night to see his condition and decided to keep him here as he is on ventilator and very critical," Joshi said.
Hiranandani Hospital CEO, Sujit Chatterjee, said Gaikwad was admitted with acute respiratory distress syndrome (difficulty in breathing due to a serious ailment). He is in ICU and on ventilator since Wednesday, he said.
Swine Flu in-charge at Maharashtra Health Directorate, Pradeep Awate, said the government doctors, who visited Hiranandani Hospital, decided to keep the patient there and not shift him to Kasturba.
According to the directorate, 40 confirmed H1N1 cases were reported on Friday. A total of 77 positive cases are being treated in various government hospitals at Pune and Mumbai.
Suspected flu patient in critical condition in Pune
The condition of a suspected swine flu patient, admitted at Sassoon Hospital in Pune, was reported to be critical on Saturday, official sources said.
The man, a school teacher from a nearby village, was admitted to the hospital on Friday and was put on ventilator.

The case was referred to the hospital by a private hospital. His test reports are still awaited.
Suspected H1N1 patient escapes from Lucknow hospital
A suspected Influenza A/H1N1 flu patient escaped after being quarantined at Balrampur Hospital in Uttar Pradesh Capital on Saturday afternoon.
Mohammad Aslam (27) of Rae Bareli district was suspected to be affected with the H1NI virus at Amausi airport on Saturday morning.
He had arrived from Oman and was found to have symptoms of H1N1 flu, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) A K Shukla said.
The youth ran away without informing the hospital authorities. He was shifted to the isolation ward of the hospital and his samples were sent for the Swine Flu test in the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Dr Shukla informed.
He said the police and Rae Bareli CMO have been apprised about his escape.
Earlier in the day, the CMO had told UNI here that there were several symptoms of the H1N1 flu in the passenger of the Oman Airlines.
"We will have to wait for 24 to 36 hours to get the sample tested at the SGPGI and then only anything could be said about the disease," Dr Shukla said.
The suspected patient was returning to his home at Rae Bareli from Oman, where he was working.
If his samples tested positive, then it would be the first case of H1N1 flu in Lucknow.
The UP government has already deployed medical teams at the international airports of Lucknow and Varanasi, besides at the Indo-Nepal border which touches Uttar Pradesh.

According to Dr N N Tripathi, the In-charge of state level observation committee set-up for the H1N1 virus control, the medical teams had been garrisoned at Sonauli (Maharajganj district), Rupaideeha (Behraich district) and Gaurikanta (Kheri district) to screen people coming from Nepal for Swine flu.
The medico said two suspected cases of H1N1 flu have come to light in Noida, but confirmation for the disease was yet to be received.
Two, including 10-year-old girl, test positive
Two persons, including a 10-year-old girl, have tested positive for swine flu in Coimbatore, government hospital sources said on Saturday.
The test reports of the girl, a Class sixth student, received from King Institute in Chennai, confirmed flu. She has been quarantined at her house, the sources said.
However, it is yet to be ascertained that how did she contracted the H1N1 virus, they said.
In another case, a 34-year-old man, who returned from Dubai four days back, has been admitted to the government hospital, they said adding he was presently in the quarantine ward of the hospital.
Both of them are being given Tamiflu tablets, the sources said.
Student with suspected swine flu symptoms in hospital
A student of Guwahati IIT showing suspected swine flu symptoms haS been admitted to the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury govepnment hgspital.
The 20 year-old male student ha$ visited Canada two-and-hAlf months ago and had started shoging the symptoms of infection since July 28 `fter his return.
He was admitted to the hospital Friday and has been kept in the isolation ward of the hsopital, Joint Director of Health Services M Prasad said.

Samples drawn from the patient has been sent to New Delhi and doctors attending on him said they will be able to confirm the HINI status after receipt of the report on Sunday.
Assam had reported four swine flu cases till now but none of the three samples sent from the state earlier had tested positive, state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said on Friday.
NRI couple tests positive for swine flu
An NRI couple, who arrived in Gujarat from Atlanta in US, on Saturday tested positive for swine flu, state health officials said.
"The couple was admitted to the city civil hospital early Saturday morning. They were tested for swine flu and the test results were positive," Health Secretary Ravi Saxena said.
The couple had come from US on July 31 and developed symptoms of the disease from August 5, Saxena said adding that they initially went to a private hospital from where they were shifted to the civil hospital.
"The man, brought in critical condition to the hospital in the wee hours, was put on ventilator. His condition has improved now and the ventilator has been removed. He is stable," Saxena said.
Both have been put in an isolation ward, he added.
With these two fresh cases, the number of confirmed swine flu cases in Gujarat has touched 10, official sources said.
About 43 patients were tested for suspected H1N1 virus in Gujarat out of which 10 cases are confirmed, they said adding results of three are still awaited.
2 school students test positive in Delhi
Two students of a private school in the capital Saturday tested positive for swine flu, school authorities said.
The students, from Class 4 and Class 11 of Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri, were found positive for the flu, said principal Abha Sehgal.
The school has sent SMSes to parents informing them about the two cases and asking them to await further instructions regarding closure of the school.
The school was closed till Monday after a Class 6 girl was suspected to be down with the swine flu on Thursday. However, she tested negative for the flu on Friday.
The capital has 179 confirmed cases of swine flu out of India's 712 so far.
