A sixteen-year old boy was killed on the spot at Foreshore Estate here on Friday after being run over by a fuel tanker. The shell-shocked residents, who witnessed the mishap, gave a sound thrashing to the driver and damaged the the vehicle’s windshields.
According to police, S Satish (16), son of Sakthivel, and a resident of Nochikuppam in Fore Shore Estate was employed at a mechanic shop in Srinivasapuram. He is also said to have acted in a recent Tamil film ‘Marina’. Satish had come home for lunch and was returning to work. He is said to have tripped and fell off his cycle and the tanker ran over Satish, who died on the spot.
The residents dragged the driver Illayaraja, a native of Tiruvannamalai, aside and beat him up and smashed the windshield of the truck.
The driver was arrested and treated for his injuries at a hospital after police officials arrived on the spot and pacified the crowd. Satish’s body was sent for autopsy to a government hospital. The Adyar Traffic Investigation wing has registered a case.
