PUDUCHERRY: As part of its e-governance initiatives, the commercial taxes department has rolled out e-payment of taxes. This would enable dealers to file returns and make payments with a click of the mouse from any location.At a function held on Friday, Chief Minister N Rangasamy inaugurated the e-payment service and released the e-payment manual. According to Commercial Taxes Ccommissioner M Rajaseker, the department’s monthly collections had increased from Rs 50 crore to Rs 59 crore, following the introduction of online filing of returns and online issue of forms.The e-payment module has been developed with the help of National Informatics Centre (NIC), Puducherry.The facility is beneficial for both the dealer and the commercial taxes department -- it saves time for the dealer by allowing to make payments online and the department benefits as the amount reaches the exchequer instantly.The Pondy government has notified six public sector banks -- the State Bank of India, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Bank of Baroda, Syndicate Bank and the IDBI through which dealers could avail of e-payment facility. For starters, e-payment have been enabled through Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank and the Bank of Baroda.Chief secretary R Chandramohan, finance secretary Raajiv Yaduvanshi and officials of the Reserve Bank of India and public sector banks were present at the event. Members of various trade and industrial associations and chartered accountants were also present.
