HYDERABAD: The prolonged Dasara holidays for the students in the Telangana region will end on Tuesday with the Telangana Teachers Joint Action Committee (TTJAC), Telangana Professional Colleges Consortium and Telangana Private Colleges Association deciding to call off their strike.Speaking to mediapersons, TTJAC chairman Polla Ravindar said they decided to call off the strike, on since September 16, considering future of the students.However, he added that the teachers JAC was still committed to the movement demanding separate state.This, they informed to the Telangana Joint Action Committee convener Prof M Kodandaram and Telangana Rastra Samithi president K Chandrasekhara Rao.The move was anticipated as the TTJAC had first held talks with secondary education minister K Parthasarathy and then with chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.According to the TTJAC sources, the chief minister consented to pay full salary for the strike period for government teachers, while the JAC promised that the teachers would work extra hours to compensate for the days lost. Apart from separate Telangana, the teachers’ demands had included lifting of cases against them which were filed during the strike period, exempting residential schools from the purview of ESMA, repeal of GO 177 and the state to take over Singareni schools.Following the decision of TTJAC, the Telangana Private College Managements Association also decided to re-open schools from Tuesday. All professional colleges including engineering, MCA, MBA, Pharmacy etc will also open on Tuesday.
