Popular TV actress Juhi Parmar feels that Bollywood biggies entering the small screen space is an encouraging trend and proves that television is no longer a small medium.
From megastar Amitabh Bachchan, superstars Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan to actors Anil Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar, a bevy of film stars has made its way on the small screen in the recent past.
"It's a great thing that big film actors are doing shows on television. Actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor doing television shows... It shows that this medium is not small," Juhi told PTI.
The actress pointed out unlike in India, in the West there is no specific demarcation among actors only doing television or films.
"In the West, there is no demarcation of television and film actors doing TV or films. There, movie actors are doing TV... TV actors are doing films. Here, we need to look at it that way. I think we all are performers and the medium shouldn't matter as only the technique of the shoot might be different," she said.
Juhi, who became popular with her daily soap 'Kumkum', has been part of the television industry for quite sometime.
The 34-year-old actress is happy with the growth the small screen has witnessed over the years.
"The growth has been huge and tremendous. Today the number of channels and shows have also increased. There is variety offered to audience and one can choose to watch what they want according to their taste and preferences," she said.
According to Juhi, though the content is undergoing a change, 'typical' daily soaps will continue to run.
"There is growth in terms of content as we have shows like '24'. Indian audience is emotional. The main primary audience of television shows are women, who are emotional. So, shows have to be on lines which they would like to see, like drama, emotions. So, the (saas-bahu) shows will exist," she said.
Juhi will be seen next in mythological serial "Santoshi Maa", to be aired on &TV from November 30.
