CHENNAI: The term of the Special Officers of the Co-operative Societies in the State has been extended once again for six more months. Appointed in 2001, the term of Special Officers has been extended several times.Governor K Rosaiah promulgated an Ordinance to this effect on November 20 since the Assembly is not in session and because the current term of the Special Officers of primary cooperative societies comes to an end on November 24, while the term of Special Officers of the Central and Apex Cooperative Societies, ends on November 25. After the first phase of polls to the cooperative societies, held on July 7 and 11, 2007, was cancelled due to violent incidents, the then DMK government announced that a fresh election schedule would be announced. But, that never happened and the term of the officers has been extended after every six months.
