New Delhi: The heat on Maharashtra Navnirman Sena continues across Maharashtra.
The Nashik Police on Thursday slapped a case on MNS activists under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for causing the death of a Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) employee during Wednesday's protest against the arrest of MNS chief Raj Thackeray.
The police have named an MNS activist, Sandeep Bhavar, as the main accused in the case. Bhavar, absconding after the incident, was arrested by the police on Thursday.
The HAL staff, Ambadas Haribhau Dharrao, was killed in an incident of stone-pelting during a protest against the arrest of MNS chief Raj Thackeray on the Nashik highway.
Dharrao, 55, was killed when a stone thrown by MNS activists hit him on the back of his head. He died on the spot. Dharrao was returning home early from the HAL plant at Ojhar near Nashik when the incident occurred.
"One stone came straight from the front towards the driver, but missed him," co-passenger Ramchandra Moreshwar said.
“Immediately, a second stone came hurling towards Dharrao, who was sitting in the back rows, and hit him straight on his head. Instantly, he collapsed and fell off the seat," Moreshwar added.
MNS activists had gone on a rampage across Maharashtra on Wednesday following the arrest of their party chief in Mumbai.
While the financial capital of the country remained peaceful, there were reports of stone pelting, arson and attacks on North Indian migrants from Nashik, Pune, Aurangabad and some other towns.
Nearly 10,000 people belonging to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar working in the industries of Ambad and Satpur in Nashik have already gone back to their home states.
Raj Thackeray was arrested after his supporters attacked North Indian migrants across the state following his rhetoric against the community almost 10 days back.
