BANGALORE: Bannerghatta Biological Park has received three female Gaurs (Indian Bison) from Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens in Mysore. The Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) has five male Gaurs and the lack of female Gaurs had affected the breeding of the animals in the park.In a press release here, Dr R Raju, executive director of BBP said, “The Mysore Zoo, recognised by Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi for conservation breeding of Gaurs, had a surplus of Gaurs. They have happily accepted BBP’s request to spare the female Gaurs.” With the addition of the new Gaurs in the herbivore safari of Bannerghatta Biological Park, the population has gone up to eight. These newly arrived Gaurs will be put for public display after a week of quarantine observation, R Raju added.
