The suspects were arrested for carrying carbine, four pistols of Pakistan, Brazilian and Chinese make and a SIM card registered in Pakistan.

Mohali: In the midst of audacious terror attack in the Indian Air Force station in Pathankot, three arms and drug smugglers having connection in Pakistan were arrested from Mohali by the Punjab police in a massive combing operation across the state.

Though the arrest was made on December 29, but the matter came in lime light on Monday. Those arrested were carrying carbine, four pistols of Pakistan, Brazilian and Chinese make. Total 30 mobile phones and one SIM card registered in Pakistan were also seized from the possession of the suspects.

Those who were arrested identified as Gurjant Singh, Sandeep and Jitendra.

Speaking to the IBN Live over telephone from Mohali, PPS, SP, Investigation, Gursharandeep Singh said, "They are not terrorists but local arms and drug smugglers with good connection in Pakistan."

He said, "Gurjant was arrested earlier but escaped from Firozpur jail in 2013. We are investigating the matter and trying to find out their movements in last one month."

Security agencies are also trying to get the details of their phone conversations.

The arrests have come days after terrorists stormed Pathankot's airbase and killed seven officials. Soon after the terror attack, a high alert was sounded in Punjab and the security was tightened across the state.
