KARUNAGAPALLY: Three teenage boys, who were bathing in the sea near Azeekal harbour, drowned on Saturday. Gokul, 16, son of Girikumar of Kayamkulam, Njanayachus, 15, son of Rajendran of Harippad and Kiran, 15, son of Kalesh of Puthuppally, near Kayamkulam, were the deceased. All the three were class 10 students of Sree Narayana Central School, Kayamkulam. Police said that the three were swimming in the sea near the Azeekal harbour around 12 noon as it was a holiday and was caught in the heavy waves. The local people and a few foreign tourists led the rescue operations. Gokul’s body was recovered first and the mortal remains of the other two were recovered after a search of nearly an hour. The bodies were handed over to the relatives after post-mortem at Karunagappally Taluk Hospital. District Collector P G Thomas announced an immediate financial assistance of `10,000 each to the families of the deceased.
